Making music

Year 5 visited London CLC on Friday for the Digital Music with Sonic Pi workshop. Sonic Pi is a text-based programming language. The class first learnt how to create simple tunes such as ‘Mary had a little lamb’ and ‘Twinkle Twinkle little star’ using simple commands such as ‘play’ and ‘sleep’. They then went on to create their own music whilst mastering more complex programming commands. They learnt a lot in a short space of time and succeeded in ‘debugging’ (correcting) any errors, finding out that computers are very fussy about instructions being exactly right! All of them recorded their own piece of music to take back to school. Sonic Pi is a free programming language, find out more at sonic-pi.net.
